My name is Jim Bonham, I am a farmer given the nickname of “Farmer Jim“. As a retired VP of a construction company and a real estate investment company, I am really very conservative with money. I am very thrifty and save money as well for those unexpected situations.

My past experiences in the workforce has given me a “Jack of All Trades” status. I am a farmer, mechanic, carpenter, plumber, heavy equipment operator, computer tech, webmaster, photographer, welder, electrician and much more, I also make videos and edit them for the farm.

I find it interesting that the Lighthouse Food Farm – A Non Profit Organization has minimum support from the people in the United States to Help their fellow citizens going hungry in America. I would have thought that since you and I were helping our own people in America, that we would have gotten much more support than we have gotten.

Lately, I have been neglecting my duties on the farm, spending day and night, trying to raise funds on the internet. I can no longer do this and keep the farm in the proper shape it should be kept in. I am getting ready to plant this winters crop so I have no time to be raising funds on the internet. Please share this page and make it go viral.

Only two options here;

1.) We get the donations/contributions, and I continue to operate the farm.

2.) If we don’t get the support needed, the farm gets shut down. I do not intend to let this happen if at all possible!

Please know we appreciate the help we have gotten. If it had not been for the ones that believe in us and in the fact of Helping Feed the Hungry in America, we would have already closed our doors. You have been very generous and many helped when they really could not afford to. THANK YOU Very Much!

Lighthouse Food Farm – Giving Hungry Americans Hope where there is No Hope.

Lighthouse Food Farm is a standalone Christian Agency and is depending upon many Companies and Individuals like you to help with this greatly needed work that serves so many.

We donate 100% of the all the crops that we grow to Soup Kitchens, elderly, Shut-Ins and to individuals that we learn that need help from the different local authorities, churches and other agencys.

We are a Non-Profit Organization, our 501(c)3 Tax-Exempt Status is in Progress. This means your donations and contributions are Tax Deductible Exemptions to the Lighthouse Food Farm with 501(c)3 status pending. Together we can continue to Help Feed Hungry Americans and Homeless Americans. Your generous donations and contributions are greatly appreciated.

We have had help from many individuals, small businesses, local Farms, Garden centers, Small and Large Corporations like: Wal-Mart, Lowe’s, Home Depot, Park’s Seed, Dicksons Tractor, Local Chicken Farms, Wilson’s Processing, local grocery stores, and people willing to allow us to borrow their equipment when needed here at the Lighthouse Food Farm.

There have been many more individuals that don’t live in our area that donated to help us help others in need. This doesn’t begin to cover all who have donated time, expertise or monetarily to help the Lighthouse Food Farm.

Thank you all for the Help that has made this Lighthouse Food Farm a Great success.

Lighthouse Food Farm Mission Statement

Our mission is to eradicate hunger, alleviate poverty and green our environment. We also bring together children, adults and seniors in urban areas to plant food gardens on unused land and space throughout America.

Community members are given the tools and education to create a lasting sustainable solution to these issues and receive hope for a better future. Neighbors share their fresh, healthy, organic produce with local food banks to help others in need.

This system of working together for a common cause while increasing diversity builds safer cities. Planting beautiful food gardens helps to lower the heat index in urban areas, aiding the fight against global warming.

My Thoughts on Hunger in America

Hunger exists not because there isn’t enough food to go around, but because many people can’t afford the food they need. And even when people in the U.S. can’t afford food, they rarely face starvation thanks to food stamps, emergency food programs, school meals, and other resources. But there are many that slip through the cracks of our system that desperately need our help.

If you are looking to help others in need, we are one charity of many that really needs your help. We would most graciously appreciate any and all donations you may give to help us continue our food farm.

Please read and view all the information below to learn more about what we do to Help Feed Hungry Americans. We have grown over the last seven years and hope to continue to advance what we can do to help others. Unfortunately, the need is growing much greater with our economy in a downward spiral.

So why should you be concerned? Our nation’s needy and “food-insecure” citizens may get food, but they don’t get nutritious or steady amounts of food, which is detrimental to adults’ ability to work, children’s ability to learn and seniors’ ability to stay healthy.

And because money stretches the best when it’s used to buy packaged, calorie-dense foods, our nation faces obesity and health-related issues. That’s why it’s everybody’s problem, not just a problem for those less fortunate.

The Choices of Hunger

Did you know that just one meal could stand between a family having a home and being Homeless? Sometimes people have to choose whether to eat or to have a shelter / home. Many families could lose their home if they missed only one paycheck / payday. Working together, our efforts can Help Feed Hungry Americans that are facing these issues.

Here is an answer to some of your questions on why I do this. Without going into a long story, my family has been where many Americans are now. Some people graciously gave my family a Helping Hand when we needed it the most, I’m just Paying it Foward!

I feel that God has called me to do this because, good people have bad things happening to them. I think that we should all care and help all we can. It could be us in their situation at any time in our lives. We would love to give as many a Helping Hand as possible. I know we appeciated it very much when we got a Helping Hand ourselves from people who cared for my family.

Our plans will assure that we can continue Helping Feed Homeless and Hungry Americans!

Learn about Our Lighthouse Food Farm

Growing Fresh Fruits & Vegetables To Feed Hungry Americans

Why We Grow Both a Winter Crop and Spring Crop

We have eighteen (18) acres where we are able grow fruits and vegetables to Help Feed Hungry Americans and Homeless Americans. While taking care of the three acres we have at the main location, I travel to our other 15 acres, to organize the planting to insure that they are producing quality fruits and vegetables.

Although hunger receives a lot of attention during the holidays, hunger also affects people every day of the year. In fact, hunger is at it’s peak during the summer when free school meals are no longer being served and those children may not have enough nutritional foods their bodies and minds need, to be healthy.

It is easy enough to get junk or non nutritious foods pretty cheap. But the adults can not be at their full potential of earning money and staying healthy without the proper nutritious foods.

When they get the nutritious foods they need, then we all win. They are healthier and not as likely to use the healthcare system, which they probably can not afford, which we all end up paying for in the long run. I think food is much cheaper than healthcare, don’t you? Then helping feed hungry Americans would be in our best interest, right?

Hunger has no place in our country or our world. Yet, just this week the number of people in America on food stamps and people having to use the Soup Kitchens has reached an all-time high. Now more than ever, we must commit to addressing this unacceptable issue. Nobody should have to struggle to put food on the table.

It is time for all Americans to reevaluate its priorities and take a genuine stance on solving the issue of hunger in the United States. With one in six Americans at risk of hunger, it is unconceivable that our country sends billions of dollars to foreign nations.

Let’s take the proven scalable solutions put forward by Share Our Strength, Feeding America, and other hunger strategy nonprofits, and fund them to the point where child hunger and hungry Americans in America are a thing of the past.

Food banks across the United States reported shortages of food donations for hungry families. As the winter months continue, let us fight with the kind and generous souls who serve our food banks and the hungry everywhere to end our food crisis!

You can do more than just give food and money. A helping hand with the effort is needed to operate and manage a food bank. This help is often welcome and greatly appreciated!

Help is needed right now! Please volunteer or contribute to your local food bank.

Thank you for your consideration in this matter to Help End Hunger.

Our Goals Beyond the Lighthouse Food Farm are;

To encourage city leaders, organizations and individuals to take their abandonded vacant lots all across America and turn them into a productive Food plot to help the Hungry and Homeless Americans.

Seeds, plants and fertilzers are needed for each food plot. The amount will vary for each plot according to size of area to be planted.

These vacant lots would be cleaned up if needed and soil tested to make sure there is no contamination that would be harmful for growing fruits and vegetables. These community gardens could be worked by local volunteers, local organizations and the homeless. Allowing cities to grow fruits and vegetables to supply their community food banks, etc.

Fruits like grapevines, blueberries, muscadines, apple trees, fig trees, peach trees and such are needed to plant where the land can not be plowed. This will allow this type of land to be used so that it will be productive as well.

We need to encourage our cities, towns and metropolitan areas to plant fruit trees in parks, playgrounds and ball parks. This would help many people in the area to have some meaningful nutrition that they may not be able to acquire otherwise.

While being productive and helping feed the Hungry and Homeless across the United States. This will help beautify our cities, towns and metropolitan areas across the nation as well.

We need your Help in making this happen across America, including suggestions, volunteering and donations that would be Greatly Appreciated.

How You Can Help with Our Immediate Needs for the Farm

Update: On March 10th, 2010, the Kerr Family from Greer, South Carolina – most graciously donated a wonderful Ford 1710 Tractor, Chipper Shredder, Scrape Blade and Finish Mower to the Lighthouse Food Farm. What a wonderful blessing it was to keep our farm operating. We could not have continued to operate the farm without the Kerr Familys donation of the tractor and equipment. This doesn’t begin to cover all of what the Kerr family has done to help the Lighthouse Food Farm financially, seeds, fertilizer and a 1001-B EarthWay Precision Garden Seeder.   Thanks Ronald and Christie!!

1.) This has kept us in operation with 3.5 acres of the farm. To continue to use the larger parts of the farm (10 acre field and the 5 acre field), we need a large 55hp to 60hp.

2.) Since we have installed our irrigation system, the huge manure truck that use to fertilize our farm can not enter the farmed land without damaging the irrigation system due to it’s weight and size. This has caused a need for a smaller more manageable Manure Spreader to prepare our farm for the next spring planting of fruits and vegetables.

See information below on the items that are needed. If you would like to contribute to the Tractor and/or Manure Spreader Funds, there are Special Widgets below the pictures specifically for these needs.
